Preserving and Growing a Unique Medical Mission

Life Safety & Collections Storage Renovations

B&F managed a series of projects to upgrade existing infrastructure within the 1908 Mütter Museum building in Center City Philadelphia. As the first phase of a planned multi-year initiative, the College sought to improve their collections storage, laboratory space, fire safety infrastructure, drainage, and moisture protection in the lower level of its facility. We facilitated a comprehensive planning process with the design team to achieve their long-term goals and address accessibility requirements. The work was carefully planned and sequenced with the construction and design teams to allow the museum to remain operational during construction and safely protect the collection onsite. Exploring Options for Expansion

B&F also helped the College evaluate the purchase and potential use of two buildings and grounds on an adjacent property. We coordinated due diligence and exploratory structural studies to gather background information on the property and worked with the design team to evaluate potential use scenarios. Our team also developed project budgets and schedules to inform the purchase of the building and assist with planning renovations. This property was ultimately purchased, significantly expanding the College’s campus, and preserving two additional buildings within the historic fabric of Philadelphia. B&F is currently managing a Campus Planning process for the College as they explore how to grow into their new space and expand their work.
